Constant Comparisons...

This is a style + story post.  Recently, I was afforded an opportunity to work with some folks that I really respect.  As designers and communicators, they're very effective...and talented.  Now, you'd think that I would take this opportunity to pick their brains and absorb any knowledge they'd be willing to impart.  OH NO!  That would be too much like right!  Instead, I'm obssesing over their skill level vs. mine.  I'm so sick of doing this!  It's draining!

So, today, I'm reminding myself to dead all the negative self speak and continue to learn, grow and thrive!

On to the outfit...

We all have those doubts about what we're doing and whether or not we're worthy but...you know what?  I am!

Life isn't all flowers and berries but, it's beautiful and it makes a way for you to be you!

Yeah, I put a curse word on my photo!  Came up that's all me, stayed true that's all me, cursing a lot that's all me...all me for real!  (thanks Drake).  Seriously, that's the only way that I can move on and be what I want to be.  Forget the fear, fuck the what ifs and keep going.

My Fall Flavor...

You know what I enjoy?  Fashion.  The only thing that stops me from being sickening fly (extremely well dressed for the lay people), is money.  I do LOVE to thrift and I purchase retail items when they're affordable.  I consider my style eclectic.  I don't like regular rules and I damn sure don't like fashion rules!  So...I wear what I like.  I wear what feels good.  That gets me a lot of sideways looks at my son's daycare.  Don't get me started on the "you're not following the rules" stares I get while traipsing down the halls of corporate America!

I see my style as an ever evolving extension of me an as artist.  I'm an artist and I'm sensitive about my shit! (Shout out to E. Badu for that quote)

Here are some of my ensembles from the month of October. You'll notice a common thread through out all these photos - combat boots and my zebra purse that I use for major family outings.  That purse can carry two foot longs, 3 waters, a make-up bag, hand sanitizer, a change of clothes and a DSLR camera!  The combat boots are so comfortable and I love them!

You'll also notice that one item in each photo is thrifted.  I'm telling you, thrifting is real!  It saves my fashion life!

Thursday Random: Bright and Bold at work!

Hi Rose Heads!  I have a girlfriend that says that she hates rules.  I always laugh when she says that because our lives are governed by rules.  Rules bring order and ensure that everything will run smoothly.  But, that's not really what she meant.  She meant, that she doesn't like LAME RULES!

Here is an example:

*No visible piercings or tattoos at work.
*No skirts or dresses above the knee.
*You must wear stockings.
*You must wear your hair off of your neck.
*You cannot wear locs, braids or afros.

Those kind of janky ass rules.  See where I'm coming from?  I truly believe that a lot of rules are meant to suppress, oppress and pigeon hole people in to little manageable boxes. Sooo...I'm grateful that my job allows me to dress how I feel and express myself.  I don't think I could manage at a place where I had to be an android and not a feeling, growing, expressive and multi-faceted human being.

Check out what I wore to work today...

Thrifty Thangs...

Hey Rose Heads!  Sup?  Today I want to show you my "new to me" thrifted maxi skirt!  I found this at the Good Will on Fairburn Road in good ol' Douglasville, GA!  What I like about the Good Will is that they are UBER organized and friendly!  They even have a plus size section...which is effin' awesome.

Let me tell you what I love about this skirt.  It has a drawstring waist, it has an almost tie die multi-colored chevron pattern, and it's all light weight cotton!  I mean...who can go wrong with that combo?  Let me help you out with that...NO ONE! :)

The top and the belt are ancient.  Both thrifted items from long ago.  My husband bought me that necklace from Dillard's when we were first married...that's my baby y'all!

My earrings were made by an awesome lady named Denise.  She owns Cre8tivesoul.com and has an Etsy store HERE.  I've had them for like five years and to this day, they're one of my most treasured pair of earrings.

Better shot of the earrings....LOVE them!

I would just like to say that I feel so much more fulfilled when I've spent next to nothing on an outfit.  It's like finding a $20.00 bill in the parking lot or someone unexpectedly paying your tab at a restaurant.  Ahhh...thrifting...

Fit Facts:
Maxi skirt - Thrifted
Peach puffy sleeved tee - Thrifted
Wide brown belt - Thrifted
Necklace (oldie but, goodie) - Dillard's

My, What Red LIPS You Have...

I'm back Rose Heads!  I'm sharing my outfit from Saturday.  Now, I'm still a novice at taking relaxed, candid and flawless photos for this here blog.  I'm working at it and drinking milk...soon I'll be strong...lol...you get the point.

I consider myself in the wardrobe building phase.  I have a lot of cute pieces but, I'm just now (in my opinion) figuring out how to put myself together.  So, this is my way of chronicling my process to full fashion realization.  That's deep...but, that's real.  Check it...

There were other photos but, this was the best.  This outfit was cool and comfortable...good for Saturday thrifting!

I have been telling myself for the longest that I would buy some red lipstick.  Now, folks have given me the names of a lot of pricey lipsticks.  I'm sorry but, I'm not going to spend $14 - $20.00 for no lipstick!  So, I went to the good ol' Walgreen's and bought some Revlon, Really Red.  Let me tell you...it is really red and I love it!  It also has a Matte finish so it just pops to me....check it...
